LECTURES
Week 5: For Week 5, we learnt about what double exposure is and how it is created. When two images are superimposed into a single frame, it will create a double exposure picture.

Week 6: To prepare for our next task, we learnt about how to adjust the camera settings to get the picture we wanted. For example, increasing ISO will let in more light and more noise.

INSTRUCTIONS
TASK
Task 2A: Double Exposure
We are tasked to create a double exposure image following Mr. Fitri's tutorial in Photoshop. We revise our knowledge on the Masking tool for the silhouette of the person in the image. We also learnt how to remove watermarks using Alpha layer in Channels and switching the layer to Multiply when there is a white background.

Afterwards, we got to use our own pictures to create our own version of Double Exposure. I got some of my images from Pexel.com and Unsplash.com and I decided to do something nature related too following the previous work which I chose doing a sea theme.

Task 2B: Conceptual Photo Manipulation
Research
For this task, we are going to combine two of the objects that we can find around our house and turn it into a singular object. Before starting this task, I found different references as my mood board before going into sketching and planning.

After Mr. Fitri mentioned that we can design the background and adding text, I found another 3 references as my mood board.

Next, I drew out some sketches on items I found around my house and try to combine them.
Figure 2.4 1st Sketch
Metronome and precision knife: Inspired by the 1st reference, turning the needle on the metronome into a precision knife gives off the feel of how people are forced to follow the tempo of society (aka rules)
Figure 2.5 2nd Sketch
Thread and flowers and sticks: The thread looks like a vase so I thought of putting flowers and sticks onto it, there is also the size difference so it will be fun to experiment
Figure 2.6 3rd Sketch
Rubrik’s cube and tissue box: They are both somewhat cube shape, having the smooth tissue that looks like cloth coming out of the Rubrik’s cube gives off magician vibes
Photoshoot
I set up my object photoshoot with equipments I can find in my house while also following the video Mr. Fitri shared on how to set it up.

Figure 2.9 & 2.10 Object photos from 1st Set-up
After letting Mr. Fitri reviewed my photos, he suggested on trying to add another light source and using tissue to soften the shadows of the objects.

It was definitely an improvement on the outcome of the photos after following his suggestion.
Editing in Photoshop

I also adjusted each of the object's curve and saturation to make it more vibrant.
Figure 2.18 & 2.19 Before VS After
To make it look more 3D, I applied some shadow behind the object.

Background Composition
As Mr. Fitri has added that we can design our background and add some text, I tried to add a solid colour background and some text.

But, after some thought, I decided to redesign it into a more minimalistic approach which lead to my 2nd Composition.

I also tried adding a gray circle at the back to create more colours to the background.
After letting Mr. Fitri reviewed, he helped me to make some adjustment on recolouring, the font used and also adding gradient which will bring out more of the minimalistic concept.Final Composition:

DESCRIPTION:
I combined flowers and threads as they both have a size difference and I think putting both of them together can give off aesthetic vibes. Here, having the thread making sewing lines while having the blooming flowers with it, it feels like something positive which the first thing I thought of are the friendships in my life. It is as if the friendships we make along the way are like sewing new happy moments in our life. Having warm colours as the background also gives off a sense of comfort and joy to help better convey the message.
FEEDBACKS
Week 5
Feedback: The work is good, try to reduce the opacity of the wave background in my own version.
Week 6
Feedback: The flower & rubric's tissue ideas are good, can find more image references related to that.
Week 7
Feedback: Try to add another light source and using tissue to soften the shadow for photoshoot.
Week 9
Feedback: Recoloured the elements, adding some gradient and change of fonts to bring out more minimalism.
REFLECTIONS
I got to practise what I learnt during Mr. Fitri's tutorial when doing my own version of Double Exposure. It was definitely a bit tough at first to catch up with the tutorial and when trying to create my own but I managed to do it after researching on Pinterest for ideas.
It was my first time attempting to bring two objects together and trying to reapply what I learnt in the previous classes into a photo. For example, saturation, masking and curve. It was difficult trying to make the overall work but some research and also help from Mr. Fitri improved my ideas A LOT. Hopefully I will get to practise what I learnt again in future to make myself more familiar and confident with Photoshop.
