LECTURES

Week 1: During physical class, Mr. Fitri provided a briefing on the projects and giving examples from seniors. We were then tasked to bring materials next week to create a self-expression physical collage.

Week 2: During week 2, Mr. Fitri explained about composition such as rule of thirds and golden ratio. He also taught us design principles such as contrast and balance to guide us when creating the physical collage.

Week 3: Mr. Fitri ran through about the basic functions available in Adobe Photoshop such as creating a clipping mask using the lasso tool.

Week 4: This week, Mr. Fitri taught us how to add a person that blends in with another image and how to get colour schemes from pictures to add colours into a B&W picture.

INSTRUCTIONS

TASK

Task 1A : Physical Collage
During the making of physical collage, we were tasked to create 3 compositions first before sticking with one of them. I selected interesting typographies and eye-catching visuals from my mother's old magazines.

Task 1A : Digital Collage
During the making of the digital collage, we were tasked to use the pictures that were sent to us and trying to crop them before arranging them together. I revised what I learnt during my physical collage and applied it here.

From this task, I learnt the basics of how to mask an object quickly using object selection tool other than just the eraser tool.

Task 1B - PART 01 HEARST MANSION
During this task, I followed the tutorials to crop out Shazam into the Hearst Mansion. Afterwards, I tried replacing Shazam with myself as a revision for what I learnt during my first attempt.

From this task, I followed the tutorial videos and it was my first time getting to know how to match the colour of my subject to the background using Match Colour function.

Task 1B - PART 02 RECOLOURING BLACK AND WHITE
For this task, I also followed the tutorials to get colour schemes from existing coloured pictures and recolour my first B&W picture. I revised what I learnt by turning another picture into a coloured one.

During this task, I got to explore more about the masking tool for recolouring while also the filters I can apply to make the colour blend in with the parts.

FEEDBACKS

Week 2
Feedback: I was suggested to go with something more balance and understandable. Mr. Fitri also suggested to modify my first composition to make it have a flow and more dynamic.

Week 3
Feedback: My first composition overall looks good, Mr. Fitri suggested me to explore another 2 compositions like Task 1A before moving into the new topic next week.

Week 4
Feedback: Overall, everything looks alright after following Mr. Fitri's tutorials.

REFLECTIONS
Throughout the tasks, I learnt and practised design principles about how to arrange the elements I got from the old magazine and improve on how I want to express myself through collage. I managed to learn some basics of Photoshop during the tutorial class. I also learnt how to crop and add a person inside an image along with how to turn a B&W picture into a coloured one. It was definitely a good struggle and it was worth it.
